train events. These events may include a Thomas
theme. We are always interested to hear of any
relevant train-related events and will list them

Whangarei Steam & Model Railway Club
Located at the Whangarei Heritage Park
in Northland, this railway operates on Whangarei
Museum Live Days and on special occasions. Usually
every third Sunday of each month during the winter.
The railway can be chartered for private occasions.

Glenbrook Vintage Railway
Situated just south of Auckland, this extensive
vintage railway often runs special events, such
as "Friends of Thomas" weekends. Click

Silver Stream Railway
Located in the Hutt Valley just north of Wellington is one of New Zealand's
most comprehensive and largest collections of preserved and operating steam locomotives.
They operate a steam train most Sundays of the year.

Situated in the Tinwald Domain at the south entrance to Ashburton in the South Island,
The Plains Vintage Railway operates regular Public Open Days on the second Sunday
of each month from October through to June each year.

Mainline Steam Excursions
Regular day excursions and multi-day tours are operated
by the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch branches
of Mainline Steam over rail lines throughout New
Zealand. These excursions provide travelers with
the unique opportunity to relive the days when steam
was king while experiencing the magnificent New
